All standard Mini 14's, ranch rifles, and tactical models are chambered in 5.56nato, It will handle both .223 and 5.56. Even though old rifles like my 20year old 188 series is market .223 ranch rifle on the receiver my owners manual and my own test shows it is chambered for both rounds. Only the target model is chambered in .223 only.
