GenerikB ( a youtuber who's currently doing a Lets Play) has a huge raft around 7x6 and it has flipped a few times. so it would take Alot of bases to make it unflippable. And a side note, the bigger the raft is, it will be harder to steer and turn.

Even though you cant destroy the raft once it has floor pieces attached to the base, you can however drag it off land by clicking and holding the the right mouse button then dragging your mouse while the word Raft is displayed.
